WhatsApp Is Launching a ‘Nearby Sharing’ Feature Inspired by Android

Users will be able to exchange files with individuals nearby with the upcoming new feature that WhatsApp is working on. Like ‘Nearby Share’ on Android, WhatsApp’s file-sharing feature will only work if users are near one another.

As per a recent report by WABetaInfo, users on WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.2.17 may now access the future file-sharing functionality, which necessitates opening a new section to send and receive files.

Additionally, it appears that to make a share request, users must shake their smartphones, and files may only be transferred to people on their contact list. File sharing will have end-to-end encryption, much as text messages and phone conversations are done through WhatsApp.

Even while the capability can be a replicate of something Android has been doing for a while, the improved encryption and the phone’s concealment from those who aren’t in your contact list make the new feature useful for sharing images or movies with people in public areas.

According to the sources, WhatsApp’s file-sharing functionality is reportedly being worked on and may become accessible in a later release; however, the availability of this feature for the stable version of the app remains unknown.

WhatsApp has also worked on a new ‘calendar search’ function that would make it easier for users to locate past conversations. Recently, the app added several new capabilities to Channels that enhance the entire experience. These features include the ability to send audio updates and establish polls for Channels.
