The time to upgrade the Aadhaar card without incurring any fees is drawing near. There will be a fee for any alterations made to the document after the deadline, such as adding a contact number, address, or identity. Therefore, now is the perfect opportunity to update your Aadhaar card if you need to.
Deadline For The Update
June 14, 2024, is the official date for free Aadhaar card modifications. The deadline for updating was previously extended by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to March 14, 2024.
Both online and offline methods are available for updating. One can physically visit the closest Aadhaar centre or use the UIDAI website to make the changes online.
Updates Following the Deadline
Users would have to pay a charge of Rs 50 to upload their papers or physically present them at the centers if any revisions are sought after the deadline.
Indian citizens are assigned the 12-digit Aadhaar, a unique identity number, based on their biometric and demographic information. By giving each resident a unique number, the document seeks to both identify false and ghost identities and avoid duplication among the inhabitants.
Identity and address verification are the documentation required to make these modifications. People can provide documents such as their ration card, voter identity card, PAN card, driver’s license, senior or secondary school transcripts with photos, government-issued identity cards or certificates, etc. as evidence of identity.
People can provide their energy, water, or other utility bills for the previous three months, as well as their bank or post office passbook, rent or lease agreements, as evidence of address in addition to their voting cards and ration cards.
To promote ease of living and access to services, the UIDAI has advised all Aadhaar card users to make sure that their most recent identification and address information is updated on their cards.
